about

In 2007 throughout the month of December, we promised to upload a song every day, and these songs would be accessed via an advent calendar style interface trying to recreate the joy of Christmas through swearing and punk rock.

Those songs are collected here as a kind of Album.

This is most of the songs (there were a bunch of none sludgefeast songs uploaded too, including other bands covering our music. The only sludgefeast song I left off was XBLA, which was recorded at a different time, so didn't really sound like part of this selection - also I had to end it at 25 tracks)

4- Riff Diabolique, at rehearsal we used to sometimes just play these two notes over and over, and just laugh about how terrible it was...I dunno why, it was a joke that stuck with me and James II. So I decided to try and make our joke into a song. The idea was, can the worst ever riff actually be good if you play it with the right volume of attitude. You can decide.

5 - Five versions of E-G-A. I just played the E-G-A song in every possible pattern, it was a dumb idea then, and its still a dumb idea today.

6 - 6 inches of alloy, James II borrowed my ride, and I had to record the song for the day, so all I had was a 6 inch crash that I had been given by someone. The lyrics are about James taking my ride cymbal "mother fucker time to take a ride, take all I got" etc. This is one my favourite sludgefeast songs, and was going to be on Judas Feast for a while.

8 - Eight Guitars - I used to own a lot of guitars, so I wrote a song to have 8 different guitars playing on it simultaneously. This idea got out of hand as December continued.

9 - I wrote geometry wars moth fucker for Trans amplification, I used to play that game a lot. One night I gigot a truly amazing score, but my internet went down so I could never submit the score to the leaderboard...after that I never even got close again.

10 - Based on the ascending scale heard in some classical things, but really I just loved the staircase music in mario that sounds like its going up forever. I wanted to recreate that in punk rock form, but I didn't really do a good job. (I could go and fix it, but I am too lazy)

13 - Let me save you a google search, this word means "a phobia of the number 13".

14 - A song celebrating the name of our record label.

16 - Sixteen different guitars all at once, this is not terrible. The reprise could almost be described as "beautiful".

18 - This song is about Call Of Duty Modern Warfare call "All Ghillied Up". I tried to beat the game on the hardest difficulty, at the end you have to survive near a ferris wheel, and it is so so so hard. I beat it by hiding in a bush between some buildings and shooting people whenever they ventured into my line of site. It took many many hours, and many many deaths. There is a Wikipedia page on the level that states " "All Ghillied Up" has since been recognized by critics as one of the greatest levels in video game history, being praised for its atmosphere, pacing, and player freedom." I think in the hardest difficulty - it was kind of broken.

19 - James II's # 1. James 2 wrote and played every instrument on this. and yes he even sang. I am not sure about the "fancy hi-hats" in the middle, but other than that I think its fantastic.

20 - A song about Evel Knievel, it even has the first ever musical representation of a canyon jump in history.

21 - I think I was running out of ideas at this point, and I decided adding percussion with a teaspoon and normal spoon banging in to each other was a good idea. Is this a good song? well not especially, but trying to release something everyday did bring a discipline to productivity. I live in a flat now, so access to drums on a regular basis is sadly no longer possible. Otherwise I would be into doing this again.

22-24 Twenty Four Guitars - So this is 24 of the worst guitars I owned, played one after the other. So each bar is accompanied by switching out guitar. The best thing is - I refused to tune any of the guitars, I just took them off the shelf and played them, as they were. Many of these guitars were pawn shop guitars that are just terrible, so I thought I would also just make a track highlighting the pick up noise, and finally a track showing off how in tune they all were.

25 - actually released a year later, I guess on Xmas day 2007 I was too busy drinking to release the track. A year later I was living in Singapore, and decided to just make something as ridiculous as possible to celebrate the festive season of drinking.
